Installation of Stockbridge Damper
A kind of protective hardware installed on the conductor (ground) line to suppress or reduce the breeze vibration. [2]
——Quoted from GB/T 5075-2016 Terminology of Electric Power Fittings
Stockbridge damper is designed to reduce the vibration caused by wind. The high voltage overhead line has a high pole position and a large span. When the conductor is affected by wind, it will vibrate. When the wire vibrates, the working conditions at the wire suspension are the most unfavorable. Due to repeated vibration, the conductor will be fatigue damaged due to periodic bending. When the span of overhead line is greater than 120 meters, Stockbridge damper is generally used to prevent vibration.
On high-voltage overhead lines, a small hammer is often hung on the conductor near both sides of the insulator. This small hammer is called anti-vibration hammer, which is designed to reduce the vibration of the conductor caused by wind. For steel-cored aluminum wire, the weight of damper is
W=0.4d-2.2 (kg)
Where d – outer diameter of wire (mm)
Stockbridge damper is composed of heavy hammer of certain quality, zinc-coated steel strand and wire clamp with high elasticity and strength.
The installation position of damper shall be determined according to the construction requirements. After the damper is installed, it can produce a movement opposite to the vibration phase of the conductor, thus eliminating or weakening the vibration of the conductor.
